INTELLIMED is pleased to announce that all new releases of State and Proprietary Market discharge data will be severity adjusted using the 3M All Patient Refined Diagnostic Related Group severity grouper (APRDRG ©). The APRDRG severity grouper is currently used by CMS for severity adjusting all of Medicare’s hospital discharges. The 3M Company is also responsible for maintaining, updating and creating new DRG’s for CMS. The creation and implementation of the ICD-10 Procedure coding system slated for late 2006 was contracted to 3M.
In addition to the Severity Grouper, 3M will provide a Risk of Mortality (ROM) assessment for each severity adjusted discharge. The ROM along with individual hospital peer review information will be a valuable tool for identifying and promoting best practices in clinical management of specific DRG’s. The attached document may better explain how ROM values are assigned to each APRDRG.
With the inclusion of the 3M-APRDRG coding system INTELLIMED will be discontinuing the use of the RDRG system. This system is being replaced to increase the level of functionality and available methodology provided to our customers and to meet customer demand.
In an effort to help each of you understand the 3M APRDRG Codes and the methodology behind them a summary on 3M’s process has been attached to this presentation. We recommend that each client interested in understanding the use and assignment of Severity of Illness and Risk of Mortality review the attached documents. Their review will provide you with a good understanding of their assignment process and available uses.
Every state and proprietary database will be processed using the 3M-APRDRG Codes. Databases already containing the 3M-APRDRG code are; Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin, Nevada and Illinois. All other remaining databases will be processed based on the order they are received.
