Intellimed creates COVID-19 Risk Visualization Resource

Intellimed creates COVID-19 Risk Visualization Resource

Phoenix, Ariz. May 5, 2020 – Intellimed, a healthcare data analytics company and data aggregator, has created a risk-scoring resource for healthcare organizations that visualizes populations with a higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19 by zip code. Intellimed provides data analytics to hospitals, health systems and payors across the U.S.

According to the Center for Disease Control, those who are at a high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19 include people 65 years and older and those who live in a long-term care facility or nursing home. Those with underlying medical issues, like chronic lung disease, asthma, heart conditions, obesity, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, or are immunocompromised are also at a higher risk.

Intellimed has used this guidance from the CDC and paired it with demographic data, professional service claims data, and Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project’s (HCUP) Clinical Classifications Software Refined (CCSR) information to craft a composite scoring methodology that gives healthcare providers strategic insight into those most at risk in their community.

Hospital Bed Space Compared to Populations at Risk for COVID-19

Hospital Bed Space Compared to Populations at Risk for COVID-19

Phoenix, Ariz. March 27, 2020 – Intellimed, one of the largest U.S. healthcare data aggregators, is helping healthcare organizations face and prepare for the COVID-19 pandemic with data insights into their populations. Intellimed provides data analytics to hospitals, systems and payors, and published a detailed report comparing hospital beds to populations most at risk for COVID-19.

COVID-19 has the potential to severely impact the U.S. healthcare system based on current spread and hospital capacities. With symptoms ranging from cough and fever to more serious issues like difficulty breathing, the virus has prompted responses from states, cities and the federal government.

Older patients, those with asthma and people with HIV are the most at risk of developing serious symptoms. According to Intellimed’s findings, most U.S. states likely do not have the ICU bed or General Medical/Surgical bed space to support their populations during this pandemic. Based on available ICU beds compared to the population ages 65 and up, Vermont has 70 beds per 100,000 and Hawaii has 71 per 100,000 at the low end. Conversely, Washington, D.C. has 254 ICU beds per 100,000 people ages 65 and up.

In total, the U.S. has 116 ICU beds per 100,000 people ages 65 and up, with 63,880 ICU beds overall. The country also has 28,140 specialty beds and 575,311 acute-care beds for a grand total of 801,238 beds, according to CMS cost reports.

Current Physician Identified Inpatient and Outpatient Medicare Data Now Available from Intellimed

Current Physician Identified Medicare Inpatient and Outpatient Data Now Available from INTELLIMED

Quarterly updated Medicare outpatient and inpatient data with physician names is now available. Over 44 million new quarterly Medicare claims are available every quarter for immediate analysis.

PHOENIX, February 28, 2017 — Intellimed is pleased to announce the availability of current quarterly Medicare Inpatient and Outpatient data including attending and operating physicians associated with each case. The data is updated every quarter and is at most 90 days old.

“Medicare represents such a large portion of all claims activity”, said Bill Goodwin, CEO of Intellimed.  “With the addition of current Medicare data, we can give clients an excellent view into both inpatient and outpatient activity that is happening right now in their markets. And given the fact that most states do not have state or hospital association provided outpatient market data, this data gives them a great window into market behavior and competitive trends.”

Intellimed has over 170 million annual Medicare claims for inpatient and outpatient activity for each year since 2008, and each quarterly updated is approximately 44 million in new claims.

Intellimed has mapped the NPIs, the historical Medicare discharges to physician activities that can be tracked over time to see changes in practice patterns, outcomes and organizational allegiances. The mapping was completed for all patients from 2008 through 2016 and with detailed record level viewing. “This is a big step forward in helping healthcare organizations more effectively plan and favorably impact their respective markets,” commented Gene Koch, COO of Intellimed.

This dataset will be especially useful for organizations that operate in states with no or restricted access to physician data, and in states where the current provided data is rather old when they receive it. All Medicare data will continue to be severity adjusted by the MS-DRG and 3M APR-DRG groupers.
